Synopsis: The death of a Conservative MP causes a by-election in a West Midlands town. At first the campaign between the major parties follows a familiar pattern. But an extreme right wing racist party intervenes, a strike by Asian foundry workers becomes an election issue, and the campaign approaches a bitter and violent climax.
